Lifting awkward loads by hooking
from above can mean massively escalating costs. If a roof has to
be removed, or steelwork and services dismantled for access, the
costs of manpower and lost production time can be substantial.
When access is difficult, a lifting method that quickly adapts to
the problem, with the versatility to set up over, under, around,
or adjacent to the load is required. MEGALIFT provides this solution.
The MEGALIFT system is only as good as those who use it, however.
Experience in applying the system to the problem and designing tailor-made
solutions are paramount.
LGH MEGALIFT had to draw on all their experience and expertise when
presented with a problem by Vauxhall Cars in Ellesmere Port on the
Wirral.
The problem encountered was the re-positioning of a Press line to
accommodate changes to one of the model range of cars. The problem
centred on a Transfer Press. Weighing in at some 200t, the machine
also stood within a Pit, meaning that the customer was contemplating
stripping, re-positioning, and re-building the machine in itÕs
new location. This would not be possibly during the period of eight
weeks available to carry out the task, and they simply could not
afford the resultant loss in production. At this point, MEGALIFT
were contacted to draw on their experience in moving similar machinery.
Two lengths of track were erected either side of the Press at right
angles with the MEGALIFT cylinders placed on the track, two per
rail, with large lifting beams passed through the Press. The MEGALIFT
system then lifted the press clear of the pit, and, still carrying
the press, travelled sideways over the pit and safely into itÕs
new location.
By drawing upon their considerable experience in the heavy lifting
market, the LGH MEGALIFT team had redesigned the task into just
three days, with huge financial savings for the customer.
