The History of LGH Group plc
1970 - LGH Group began as Lifting Gear Hire Ltd, formed by our Chairman,
Bill Parkinson.
1974 - Second branch opened in Doncaster
1979 - With 5 branches turnover went over the £1 million
barrier.
1985 - The company's first, full time, professional accountant
was recruited. Simon Butterworth was promoted to Managing Director in
1990.
1990 - Revenues exceeded £10 million for the first time.
1990 - Overseas Development Director, Gordon Worswick, opens first
USA branch in Chicago.
1992 - LGH makes its largest acquisition, the NIM Group. This
includes a specialist heavy lifting and winching hire business, and a
manufacturing site in Newcastle Upon Tyne.
1993 - Customer Training business established
1993 - First branch in mainland Europe opens in Ridderkerk near
Rotterdam
1996 - Company name is changed to LGH Group plc
1997 - 30th Lifting Gear Hire branch opened
1997 - Group acquires KOBI Maintenance Ltd. A leading company
in the maintenance of permanently installed access equipment. (The business
was recently renamed - NIM Suspended Access)
2000 - LGH Celebrates it's 30th Birthday
2001 - LGH awarded Investor In People
2002 - Formation of LGH GmbH
2002 - Formation of LGH Winches
2003 - USA Expansion for Lifting Gear Hire
2003 - 35 Lifting Gear Hire branches now open in the UK
